New Macclesfield Data Centre
The construction of the new Britannia Building Society new Data Centre at Macclesfield presented a few challenges for us along the way.
The facility required generator backup but as the chosen building was of a standard “office type” of design there was no plant area to house the generators in.
ITconstruct worked with the building owner and the local authorities to agree the design of a new plant area compound to house the two new backup generators. Acoustic noise assessments were completed as the compound was fairly close to a residential area.
The design incorporated acoustic fencing and low noise generator units to satisfy the local authorities requirements.
The compound was duly built and the generator were lifted into position by one of the largest cranes ever to visit the area.

The air conditioning system for the new Briatannia Data Centre had to comply with some fairly stringent client requirements.
As the Building Society is a financial institution they wanted the Air Supply Units to be ideally located externally to the IT area for security reasons.
ITconstructed developed a design whereby the A/C units were housed within a newly constructed “plant corridor” next to the IT area so that they could be maintained by the Facilities Team without the need to enter the Data Centre area.
The units provided conditioned air through the wall into the data centre area and rejected the heat externally

As you might expect the security systems required for the Society were more than the average Data Centre.
We provided a solution that incorporates both physical, passive and active security measures to provide the very best available in the industry today.
